In order to increase public breast cancer awareness and education in Ghana, HopeXchange helped create the Ghana Breast Cancer Alliance (GBCA). The GBCA is a collaborative force combining the knowledge and experience of leading Ghanaian experts with the resources and expertise of some of the world’s premier breast cancer facilities and organizations. Founding members of the GBCA include:
The GBCA will promote the importance of breast health and the value of early detection through a specially designed series of breast cancer outreach and awareness programs. The programs will utilize a newly designed standardized format, based on existing best practices, to improve coordination among the various independent outreach efforts currently conducted throughout the country. Specialized training will be provided to the healthcare professionals and volunteers conducting the programs to ensure programmatic consistency and quality. The GBCA is also currently developing a public survey tool aimed at assessing the state of breast cancer knowledge, beliefs and fears among women in Ghana. The survey tool will be utilized in conjunction with the pilot outreach programs. |
